    Sally Beauty Holdings (NYSE: SBH) is the world's largest wholesale and retail distributor of beauty supplies.  Our world headquarters is conveniently located in Denton, Texas, just 5 minutes north of Lake Lewisville off of I35E.  

     

    Reporting to the General Counsel or Associate General Counsel, the Senior Counsel is responsible for advising on activities of the corporation to ensure maximum protection of its legal rights and to maintain its operations within the limits prescribed by law.  This person works directly with business partners and serves as legal counsel in various business areas and will be the primary resource for the IT and procurement groups.  Additionally, the Senior Counsel may provide support on matters including insurance, contracts, real estate, consumer privacy and litigation and other areas of business.

    Responsibilities

    • Acts as primary legal contact for IT and Procurement groups, which involves heavy contract negotiation.
    • Provides legal counsel and guidance to management on various matters involving legal agreements, corporate transactions, disputes, due diligence, subpoenas and other informational requests, and a variety of additional legal issues.
    • Performs analysis and review of contracts with regard to proposed new products and other merchandising agreements, vendor agreements, outsourcing agreements, software licenses, protecting intellectual property, nondisclosure agreements and other business services.
    • Researches and analyzes various legal issues to render opinions; coordinates and assists in the representation of the Company in legal disputes; studies proposed and existing legislation; reviews business practices, policies and plans and advises management of potential risks.
    • May handle different types of litigation matters, including customer and contract-related litigation and disputes.
    • Participates in development of various policies with legal implications (environmental, social, privacy, etc.) and recommends procedural improvements.
    • Coaches/teaches legal personnel and various departments with regard to legal issues and processes.

    Qualifications

    • 7+ years of experience in large firm private practice and/or in-house role. Some in-house experience preferred.
    • J.D. and license to practice law in at least one state is required.
    • Experience with commercial contracts, consumer protection, legal and regulatory compliance, privacy and issues in other highly regulated industries.
    • Experience with handling a variety of commercial deals with sophisticated parties.
    • Experience working with software contracts and SAAS agreements is a major plus.
    • Excellent written and verbal skills with the ability to present information/complex legal matters clearly, and concisely.
    • Strong execution and project management skills and ability to corral stakeholders from across the organization on cross-functional projects.
    • Must be a self-starter who possesses a strong work ethic, be highly organized, be able to handle multiple activities simultaneously.
    • Ability to work efficiently under pressure, juggle multiple projects with contending priorities, meet deadlines, and adapt to change in a dynamic environment.
    • Must be confident, collaborative, and able to operate in a fast-paced environment.
    • Demonstrated business aptitude and ability to move quickly across a large matrixed organization.
    • Flexibility to perform in nimble, rapidly changing and growing environments; highly adaptable with attention to scaling.
    • Inquisitiveness, along with the ability to spot issues, get to the heart of a matter, and articulate plans to address.
    • Strong communication skills and demonstrated experience working with business leaders.
    • Collaborative approach with both business and legal groups, with strong ability to build relationships, gain credibility, understand and appreciate the business cost/benefit analysis for various legal recommendations, and partner with others.
